Hello,

It is with great pride that I am able to make a substantial career change later in life.  Although I still feel like a kid myself, I have many years of professional work behind me.  Currently, I own a small marketing company, called Real Purpose Media, that services local and national clients.  I have also spent many years as a youth director and as a commercial pilot.  Overall, my switch to education comes from a personal desire to "add more purpose" to my life and the lives of those I come in touch with.  Through my work, Real Purpose Media, I have had an opportunity to donate many hours of my time to lead students on trips around the world.  The primary focus has been meeting and serving youth in need.  A year ago, almost to the day, I took some students to India to try to get a better understanding of how to help the children sold into slavery in Mumbai.  My heart broke as I saw the destruction, helplessness, need, and solutions.  Working with Bombay Teen Challenge, I was able to get an in-depth few of the whole cycle.  When talking to the director about the problems and solutions, he told me that "Education" was one of the most important pieces to the puzzle.  From that moment, I couldn't let go of my desire to become a more professional educator.

Joining me in this journey is my lovely wife and my three girls.  As I write this, I am also assisting my youngest with clothing decisions for her American Doll.  My middle daughter is in sixth grade and is a highly competitive soccer player.  My eldest is in high school taking on the world.

I chose Antioch because I was impressed with their focus on social justice.  My underlining motivation is a love for students and a desire to inspire.  I have really enjoyed my life's adventures and I hope to equip students with the tools they need to make their own decisions and their own paths.

I am highlighting my personal and professional growth thus far using Antioch University's Domains of Practice Development.  I will focus mainly on my growth in "Planning Instruction and Designing Learning Experiences for All Students," "Understanding and Organizing Subject Matter for Learning Students," and "Engaging and Supporting All Students in Learning."

A majority of the content you will review was created specifically for Room 412 at Santa Barbara Charter School.  It is my hope that the students feel unique and special.  They are greatly appreciated.

I look forward to the future relationships that will be built with students, cooperating teachers, faculty, and staff.

Sincerely,

Steve Schapansky
