Hot Cakes Teaches Programming

Starter Questions:

Observe students using technology at your school site. How are they using it? What are they using? When are they using it? Then, informally interview a couple of teachers. How do you see technology being used by learners and teachers? What are your thoughts so far on technology use in the classroom and by learners?

When it comes to the use of technology in the classroom, I see a goldmine of opportunity. The only technology that is being used is pretty basic and definitely not exploratory. My classroom uses a projector, apple TV, and and at sometimes they will play a video on the TV. After multiple conversations with the teacher and classroom aide, we have come up with a loose strategy to start incorporating technology. The teachers were open and excited about making the dive.

First, we introduced a robot and started instruction on how to think like a programmer. Then, we provided worksheets for each student to practice some simple commands. In the future, each student will get a chance to program Hot Cakes, the robot. We also plan on introducing some exploratory games in which the students can engage with some programming games.

Finally, if there is time, we plan on creating a global classroom and inviting conversations with another classroom in India. There is a large amount of opportunity to introduce technology and, so far, everyone is on board.

Below is a sample of the programming worksheet.
